Stewart-Reed family reunion
HEBRON — The descendants of Mary Elizabeth Stewart and Charles Franklin Reed will hold their annual reunion on Sunday, Aug. 11, at the home of Rich and Jane Hatch.
Arrival time is before noon with a potluck lunch at noon. After lunch the annual business meeting will take place along with the traditional egg toss, pie eating contest and other games.

World’s Fair meeting, new supper
WATERFORD — The August meeting for the Waterford World’s Fair will be held on Sunday, Aug. 11, and the fair will be serving hamburgers and hot dogs, cole slaw, a beverage and strawberry shortcake to all the volunteers who helped with this year’s fair.
Volunteers are invited to join the directors and members starting at 12:30 p.m. at the fairgrounds for the meal. At 2 p.m. the fair meeting will be held. This an important meeting. Find out the results of the fair for 2013 and find out what is being planned for the rest of the summer, as there will be many events taking place. The fairgrounds are at 36 Green Road, across from Melby’s Market on Route 35.
One new event will be Dana’s famous baked haddock supper at the Fairgrounds on Aug. 17.
The menu will be baked stuffed haddock, potato, vegetable, bread, beverage and the ladies of the fair will have their famous homemade pies, all for $10. Serving will start at 5 p.m. For those who are not fish lovers there will be macaroni and cheese.

Methodist Church outdoor service
RUMFORD — On Sunday, Aug. 11, the Rumford United Methodist Church will hold an outdoor service at the home of Mary and Jim Pulsifer on Worthley Pond. It will be held at the regular time of 11 a.m. and will be followed by a potluck meal.

Forum at Adult Learning Center
JAY/LIVERMORE FALLS — Community members are invited to attend an open forum at the Adult Learning Center Cafeteria at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14.
The purpose of this meeting is to determine how portions of the former Spruce Mountain High School South building can be repurposed to benefit both Adult Education and the community. All ideas and suggestions are welcome.

Supper dance at American Legion

‘Lovely Librarians’ storytelling, craft
MEXICO — As part of the Terrific Tuesdays summer programs for kids, the Mexico Public Library will host a “Lovely Librarians” Storytelling & Craft Hour at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13.
Brenda Sassi and Michelle Boucher-Ladd will be the presenters for this fun program about “wild things and wild people,” and will share both stories and crafts.
Sassi has been a librarian for many years, most recently at Holy Savior School, and Ladd is a teacher at Holy Savior School, but also a former librarian.
Kids of any age are invited, although the focus group is for ages 2-12. FMI: 364-3281.

‘Doughboys’ author to visit library
PARIS — Author Richard Rubin will visit the Paris Public Library the evening of Wednesday, Aug. 14, to discuss his recent best-selling book, “The Last of the Doughboys.”
Beginning in 2003, Rubin spent 10 years tracking down and interviewing the final American survivors of World War I, the last who died in 2011. All were more than 100 years old when they met with Rubin, but each recalled harrowing events from their youth. Their personal anecdotes give life to the history and events which determined the courses of the 20th and 21st centuries, and Rubin’s book saves these almost lost memories for the future to appreciate the Doughboys’ experiences.

Norlands program: ‘Barns of Maine’
LIVERMORE — Don Perkins to talk about “The Barns of Maine” at The Washburn-Norlands Foundation’s 2013 Annual Meeting, which begins at 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 19.
Following the business meeting, the program will feature an illustrated presentation at 7 p.m. by Perkins, author of “The Barns of Maine: Our History, Our Stories.” The program takes place in the Norlands meeting house, 290 Norlands Road.
Perkins has a passion for barns. He is a former carpenter and woodworker with a longtime interest in timber framing. He combines informative tales of iconic farm buildings with their owners to reveal the history and lost craft of Maine barns. He is a member of the Timber Framer’s Guild. Natural History Club flower show
TURNER — The Turner Natural History Club and Museum will hold its annual flower show and community information day on Saturday, Aug. 17.
The flower show has three judged classes: cup and saucer, miniatures, and container of your choice. All entries must contain only wildflowers.
Entries must be in place by 11 a.m. Judging will be at 11:30 a.m. Ribbons will be awarded.
A presentation of the MPBN film “Sustainable Maine: Saving Our Lakes” will take place at 1 p.m., followed by questions and answers with a Colby College researcher from the Belgrade Lakes project.

Neighborly Seniors trip to Fryeburg fair
RUMFORD — The bus trip for the Fryeburg Fair with the Neighborly Seniors will be on Tuesday, Oct. 1. There will be a $10 charge.
The Christmas Show at Indian Head Resort will be on Sunday, Dec. 8. The cost will be $59. The bus will pick up in Dixfield, Mexico and Bethel.
