BIDDEFORD — A Saco man and a toddler were listed in critical condition at Maine Medical Center in Portland after being struck by a vehicle Friday evening.

Jamerico Elliott, 51, was traveling on a sidewalk along Elm Street on his bicycle with a 15-month-old boy in a bicycle seat just before 6 p.m. Friday when he was struck by a 2005 Ford Explorer pickup driven by David Labonte, 56, of Kennebunkport, according to a statement released by the Biddeford Police Department on Saturday.

Labonte was traveling northbound on Elm Street when he allegedly crossed the centerline into the oncoming traffic lane and struck Elliott, the toddler and another bicyclist, Melodie Brennan, 30, of Saco.

Elliott and the 15-month-old were still listed in critical condition on Saturday afternoon, said a nursing supervisor at Maine Medical Center.

Brennan was treated at Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford on Friday evening and released.

A statement from police mentioned that they couldn’t tell “if any of them had helmets on.”

The relationship between the two bicyclists and the toddler was not made clear by police.

After striking the bicyclists, Labonte’s vehicle then struck a 2001 Chevrolet pickup truck parked at Republic Cash, said police.

“The force of this pushed both vehicles into an adjoining residence causing damage to the residence,” according to the release. “Damage to the house included a granite foundation block being pushed into the residence, loss of electrical power and water.”

Biddeford’s code enforcement department was brought in to evaluate the safety of the home, but the outcome of that evaluation was not available Saturday.

Biddeford police did not indicate why Labonte allegedly crossed the centerline or whether Labonte was injured.

On Friday, a bicyclist in Bangor was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center after being struck by an SUV.
