MEXICO — Selectmen have entered a purchase and sale agreement with a Massachusetts man for the former SAD 43 central office building.

Town Manager John Madigan said Daniel Pfaff is expected to pay the $100,000 asking price.

The two-story, 60- by 90-foot building next to the Mexico Recreation Center has been owned by the town for three years. It was given to Mexico a year after SAD 43 merged with RSU 10.

For the past three years, parts of the building have been leased by Luther Social Services and the Mexico Police Department. Madigan said the buyer plans to continue with the leases and rent out the remainder of the building.

The sale is scheduled to be completed by the end of August.

One of the best parts of selling the building, Madigan said, is that it will go on the tax rolls for the first time it its 50-year history.

It was built in the 1960s as a middle school, then transformed into the central office for the school district when the Rumford School Department merged with SAD 43.

Madigan said maintenance costs have equaled the lease paid by Luther Social Services.

The funds from the sale will be added to the town’s surplus account.
