FARMINGTON — A Chesterville man’s bail was increased to $50,000 cash or $200,000 worth of real estate when he went before a judge Wednesday on a sexual assault charge, according to court documents.
Jason Bergeron, 36, is accused of sexually assaulting a girl under the age of 15.
Bail was initially set at $10,000 cash.
Bergeron was arrested Tuesday by Franklin County sheriff’s detectives on one count of felony gross sexual assault.
At his Farmington court appearance Wednesday two more charges of gross sexual assault were brought against him, according to court documents.
A conviction carries a penalty of up to 30 years in prison and a maximum fine of $50,000.
According to a police affidavit, the victim told detectives that Bergeron has had inappropriate contact, including sexual contact, with her over the past three years.
Bergeron may have his bail reviewed when he is appointed an attorney.
The conditions of his release are that he not possess or use alcohol or illegal drugs and not possess any dangerous weapons, including guns. He is subject to random searches and testing. He is also prohibited from having direct or indirect contact with the victim.
His next court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 24.
