LEWISTON — Maine Family Federal Credit Union has awarded three $1,000 scholarships to local high school seniors.
Scholarship winner Daniel Fortier of Lewiston is the son of Pauline and Berard Fortier; he is the recipient of the Maurice Fontaine Scholarship.
Fortier will attend the University of New Hampshire in the fall to study mechanical engineering. Valedictorian of his graduating class, he received awards, including the National Honor Society, Principal’s Award, Harvard Book Award and Princeton Book Award. He is a member of the Future Business Leaders of America, basketball team, Student Council, Math Team, Key Club, Pep Band and the gifted and talented in math and science programs. He has mentored in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Program, and raised over $17,000 for a Haiti Orphanage.
Scholarship winner Kaelina Perron of Auburn is the daughter of Kathleen and Joseph Perron; she is the recipient of the Roger Bissonnette Scholarship.
Perron will attend Assumption College in the fall to study psychology. Among the top ten in her class, she received the Principal’s Award, Citizenship Award, Leadership Award, Assumption Book Award and Honorary Bausch and Lomb Science Award. She was captain of the field hockey team, and a varsity letter member of the lacrosse team. She was vice president of her class and a member of National Honor Society. She served as a kick-off mentor and was a member of the council.
Scholarship winner Tori Denis of Lewiston is the daughter of Robert and Darleen Denis; she is the recipient of the Founder’s Scholarship.
Denis will be attending University of New England in the fall to study medical biology. She has received the Yale Book Award, Most Respectful Student award, is on the KVAC All-Academic Team and is a member of the National Honor Society. She participated in basketball, soccer, softball, L-Club, and Key Club. She has volunteered at the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society, Dempsey Challenge and Special Olympics, and was editor of the school yearbook.
Denis’ grandfather, Lucien Perron, was Maine Family Credit Union’s first loan recipient. He took the loan to buy his first cow, Batchi.
