RUMFORD — Selectmen will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, July 29, to propose budget amounts for a re-vote on the eight budget articles that failed to be approved at Tuesday’s polls.

The meeting will be held in Rumford Falls Auditorium.

These eight budgets are General Government, Public Safety, Police Department, Fire Department, Public Works, General Assistance, Capital Accounts and Unclassified Accounts.

Once the selectmen make their recommendations, the Finance Committee will be required to meet again to make their recommendations, Town Manager Carlo Puiia said Wednesday in an email to town officials and department managers.

A public hearing will be held no later than Aug. 22 in the auditorium and another secret poll meeting (vote) will be scheduled no later than Sept. 6, Puiia said.

Tuesday’s unofficial voting results published on Wednesday in the Sun Journal were confirmed Wednesday as official counts by Town Clerk Beth Bellegarde, with the exception of one tally for the Public Works budget. On that, 303 and not 333 people voted for the selectmen’s recommendation.

Voters defeated the initially proposed municipal budget on June 11. Selectmen then reduced their recommendation from the original requested amount of $7.6 million to $6.5 million, and the Finance Committee reduced its budget recommendations to $7.2 million.
