RSU 4 offering food program
WALES — As of June 24 RSU 4 (Litchfield, Sabattus and Wales) is sponsoring a Summer Food Service Program. All children under the age of 18, whether a resident of RSU4 or not, are eligible for the free breakfast and lunch programs that are being offered.
This is the first year the program has been offered; based upon turn out the district hopes to expand next year.
At the Sabattus Primary School, the program serves breakfast only, Monday through Friday from 7 to 8 a.m. The Carrie Ricker School in Litchfield serves breakfast from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. Monday through Friday and lunch from noon to 1 p.m.
The program incorporates a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables thanks to sponsors like Applewald Farm in Litchfield. The program is averaging 80 meals a day and will run until Aug. 16.

Marine Corps League meeting
AUBURN — The Marine Corps League Central Maine Detachment will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 25, at the American Legion Post 31, Washington Street.
The Marine birthday in November will be discussed.
Old Cemetery group’s meeting
BROOKS — The Maine Old Cemetery Association will hold its second 2013 program day and meeting on Saturday, July 27, at the Harvest Home Grange No. 52, 84 Moosehead Trail Highway, Route 7. The public is invited.
Ray Quimby’s illustrated presentation will be “Brooks: Then & Now.” Also presenting will be Linda Lord, Maine State Librarian, who will discuss “Cemetery information at the Maine State Library.” Dan Mulcahey, Ret. Command Sgt. Major, will tell the group about Brooks’ new veterans memorial, and Betty Littlefield, a Brooks Historical Society founding member and current president, will share information about the society. “An Overview of Some Brooks’ Cemeteries” will be presented just before lunch and after lunch attendees will visit several cemeteries.
From 8:30 a.m. until noon there will be exhibits and displays. Attendees are invited to display information about cemetery-related projects. Registration is from 8:30 until 9:10 a.m. and the cost is $3 at the door. Questions should be directed to Cheryl Willis Patten at cwpatten@tds.net.
The meal deadline was July 19, but if you make immediate contact at townofbrooks@fairpoint.net it might still be possible to order lunch. Anyone is welcome to bring their own lunch.

Dempsey art workshop for kids
LEWISTON — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing will offer a free art workshop for children ages 3 and up with a loved one with cancer. “Gifts of Love” will take place from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, at the Dempsey Center, 29 Lowell St.
Children’s Program Coordinator Tookie Bright and Doreen Wilcox will lead this fun and creative workshop where kids can explore different ways to shower their sick loved one with gifts from the heart. Together we will share helping ideas, read a story and create bracelets, pins and other easy crafts that help your child express how much they care.
