LD 1181 would have required large food manufacturers to disclose their use of the toxic chemical BPA in their cans and jars. Unfortunately, LD 1181 was vetoed by Gov. Paul LePage and an override of the veto fell just a few votes short.

I thank Rep. Lance Harvell for standing up for children’s health by voting to support this bill, but I am disappointed that Sen. Tom Saviello chose to support the governor’s veto and the chemical industry instead.

I sincerely hope that the effort to protect children from toxic BPA in their foods will continue.

Miriam Brennan, Farminton
