ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The American College of Health Care Administrators announces that Philip DuBois, CNHA, FACHCA, is the 2013 recipient of the ACHCA Education Award.

The award was presented at ACHCA’s 47th Annual Convocation and Exposition in Orlando, Fla., in April.

The Education Award recognizes an individual for educational program(s), seminar(s), or workshop(s) that, because of their content, innovative approach, or other special components, have made an outstanding contribution to education in long-term care.

DuBois, of Oxford, is a nursing home administrator who was seriously injured and became a resident in his own facility for several months. As a result of that experience, he began presenting a seminar titled “When the Administrator becomes the Resident.” The program sensitizes staff to the resident perspective in a very unique way.

DuBois has also been instrumental in reorganizing the Maine Chapter of ACHCA. He has been instrumental in coordinating the education and continuing education approval process with the Maine Nursing Home Administrators Licensing Board.

He was recently appointed to the teaching faculty at St. Joseph’s College of Maine in Standish where he is also the program manager of long-term care administration. He had previously been with the Market Square Health Care Center in South Paris.
