VFW Post 9150 to meet Thursday

LEWISTON — The Longley-Dionne VFW Post 9150 will hold its monthly meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 18, at the Lewiston Armory.

All officers and members are encouraged to attend. The agenda will include upcoming activity for the post.

Stained glass at Dempsey

LEWISTON — The Dempsey Center will hold a stained glass presentation at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, July 18, at the center, 29 Lowell St.

In the past few months more than 20 volunteers have met regularly to create a stained glass piece which was donated to the center. The piece was created under the direction of master artisan and melanoma cancer survivor Nel Bernard in a space donated by Jim Nutting, owner and artisan of the Maine Art Glass Studio. It was installed July 9.

Leeds F.D. plans sale, auction

LEEDS — The Leeds Volunteer Fire Department will host a barn sale and silent auction from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 20, and Sunday, July 21n at the Sander-Lou Farm on the North Road.

The sale will include many amazing donations, including furniture, tools, tigers, dishes, decorator’s materials, books, massive sporting equipment and crafting materials of all kinds.

The auction will be a combination of open bids and raffle items. Raffle tickets for items on the auction tables will be $1 per ticket or six for $5. The bidding part of the auction will feature an original watercolor painting by Nancy Trider, a wine fridge, electric guitar, lobster and many gift certificates from local businesses.

Smaller items will be on the raffle where you can choose which items you would like your tickets to go for. These include hunting items, Sea-Dogs tickets and a lottery tree. The auction will close at 3 p.m. Sunday and winners will be notified immediately. Winners need not be present to win.

The department is working on purchasing a safety containment system for its 4500 psi air bottles.

Golf tournament aids LHS hockey

AUBURN — On Sunday, Aug. 4, the Blue Line Booster Club, which supports Lewiston High School boys’ hockey, will hold its 20th annual Golf Tournament at Martindale Country Club. The funds raised from the tournament help to defray the many expenses associated with the hockey program.

There will also be prizes for the top three teams, longest drive men and women and closest to the pin plus numerous raffle items at the conclusion of the tournament.

Noon will be lunch and registration, with shotgun at 1 p.m.

The cost is $65 per person, which includes green fees, cart and lunch. Limited to 144 golfers.

Deadline for registration is July 29. Mail entry fee of $65 per person (checks only, payable to Blue Line Booster Club ), as well as name, address and phone number of each participant, to Guy Gagnon, Treasurer, 15 Nelke Place, Lewiston, ME 04240. Donations can also be sent to that address.

Free yoga workshop

LEWISTON — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing will offer a free yoga workshop for cancer patients, survivors and caregivers. “Restorative Yoga: Relax and Renew” will take place from 6 to 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, at the Dempsey Center, 29 Lowell St.

Yoga instructor Tish Caldwell will lead participants through a gentle form of yoga that uses props to encourage a deep state of relaxation. By supporting various parts of the body with bolsters, blocks, blankets and/or straps, one can fully release into the pose and relax every part of the body. Restorative yoga helps relieve the effects of chronic stress and move the spine in all directions to promote greater well-being.

Reiki Master Meredith Kendall and Children’s Program Coordinator Tookie Bright will lead this fun and creative workshop which will provide youth instruction on how to use their positive energy and the touch of their hands to comfort the people they love. Registration limited to 10.
