Two acts with local connections moved on to New York in Tuesday night’s “America’s Got Talent” show at Planet Hollywood Resort in Las Vegas.

Colin Britt of Auburn and Abi Hodgson of Lewiston brought their musical talents to the popular NBC talent show where the grand prize is a regular act in Las Vegas.

Opera singers competed on the same stage as a sword swallower who climbs poles. Juggle stun guns in a ring of stun guns? Put a giant hook through your nose and out your mouth so you can drag your wife around the stage in a wagon? 

America may have talent, but Celine Dion was feeling pretty safe about her regular spot in Vegas.

There was the long, dramatic obligatory opening. Casino vistas intermixed with the judges’ faces in close-up, speaking in hushed, serious tones about the level of competition.

The scene cut to dramatic music as backroom debate among the judges was blended with scenes of cheering acts moving on to Radio City Music Hall, or crying and forlorn with rejection backstage.

Among those pushed through was Britt, who wowed the judges in his audition with an orchestral rendition of Carly Rae Jepson’s “Call Me Maybe.”

Hodgson also made it as member of a singing group, the American Military Spouses Choir.
