HARTLAND — Maine Warden Service divers have recovered the body of a Harmony man missing since Sunday.
The body of William Witt, 66, was recovered in about 8-9 feet of water in Pickerel Cove on Great Moose Lake near where his boat was discovered on Sunday, according to Maine Warden Service spokesman Doug Rafferty.
Witt’s body was discovered at about 12:45 p.m. Tuesday, he said.
“His body is being transported to the state medical examiner’s office in Augusta for an autopsy,” Rafferty said on Tuesday afternoon.
Wardens received a call at approximately 7 p.m. Sunday of a boat doing circles on the lake without an operator. A search was conducted that night and again on Monday.
The family has been notified, he said.
Rafferty said 16 wardens were at the scene on Tuesday, plus five or six members from Maine Search and Rescue.
He said did not know whether a life jacket was in the boat.
