AUBURN — The Penley Corner Church, located on Riverside Drive, will be open to the public at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 14, for its annual all-faiths service.
Rev. Stephen Hanson graduated from New Brunswick Bible Institute, Victoria Corner, New Brunswick, Canada, in 1978. He pastored various churches in Maine and New Hampshire, retiring in 2007.
Twenty of those years were in Village Missions churches. Steve retired from the U.S. Air National Guard in 1978 after 24 years of service. He and another brother in Christ started Faith Bible Institute at New Gloucester Baptist Church in 2008 and it is an ongoing ministry.
Rev. Hanson and wife Nancy reside in New Gloucester and are the parents of nine children, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Captain John Penley donated the lot for the church and cemetery in 1833. The church is now listed in the National Register of Historical Places. Relatives of the church’s founder often attend from various parts of the country, as well as local community members.
Everyone is invited to the service followed by refreshments and fellowship.
