TEMPLE — Ronald M. Mitchell, 74, of Temple, died peacefully on Monday, July 8, in his favorite place, his home, on Mitchell Brook Road, Temple, surrounded by the love of his family.

He was born Oct. 1, 1938, in Temple, a son of Howard and Wilena (Robinson) Mitchell. He was a 1956 graduate of Farmington High School and a 1960 graduate of UMO.

He was a civil engineer employed by the U. S. Forest Service in Oregon, Vermont and New Hampshire. He later worked for the State Highway Departments in Maine and New Hampshire and eventually had his own civil engineering and land surveying business in Guilford, N.H. He was instrumental in the start up of the Sandy River Recycling in Franklin County.

In 1979, he and his wife returned to his beloved hometown of Temple.

Ronald was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed painting and serving his community as a member of the Temple Historical Society. He was a devoted member of Red Sox Nation and was grateful for time spent with family and close friends.

He is loved by his wife of 54 years, Jean B. Mitchell of Temple, whom he married on June 6, 1959; their daughter, Susan M. Kreitzman of Saco; his brother, Arthur Mitchell and his wife, Donna, of Temple; sister-in-law, Louise Mitchell of Farmington; grandsons, Alex Kreitzman of New York, Joel Kreitzman of Biddeford and Tyler Wisniewski of Saco; numerous nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Shirley Hennessy and her husband, Ed, of Windsor, Conn., Peggy Buzzell and her husband, Leland, of Gorham, Beverly Lewis and her husband, Roy, of Gramlich, Md., and Diane Porter and her husband, Danny, of New Sharon.

He was predeceased by his son, Glenn C. Mitchell in 1981; brother, Albert Mitchell; sister, Mavis Mitchell; and brother-in-law, William Cleary II.
