BOWDOIN — Francis “Buddy” Byras, 79, of Bowdoin passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, July 7, at his home.
He was born in Lewiston, Oct. 19, 1933, the son on John M. and Mary I. (Lacko) Byras. He was a graduate of Lisbon High School and later served his country in the U.S. Navy.
Following his service to his country, he worked for several years at Samson Supermarket in Lisbon Falls and later for many years at U.S. Gypsum in Lisbon Falls until his retirement.
A generous and giving person, Buddy was a member of the Slovak Lower Club in Lisbon Falls, an avid fisherman and Yankees fan, and most of all an excellent hunter, sharing and mentoring to many people and children his skills and techniques.
He is survived by his sisters, Katherine “Betty” E. Small of Bowdoin and Shirley Ann Durgin of Brunswick; his brother, Louis Murphy and wife, Margaret “Peggy,” of Bowdoin; his sister-in-law, Corley Anne Byras of Bowdoin; several nieces and nephews on the Byras family side; and his close friends, who were like a family to him, the Small family of Bowdoin with whom he made his home for many years.
