American Legion meeting July 9

LEWISTON — American Legion Post 210 will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, at the Armory on Central Avenue. All interested parties and current members are welcome to join members as they prepare for the next year.

La Leche League meets July 10

AUBURN — Expectant women and breastfeeding mothers are all invited to a La Leche League meeting to be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, at 102 Bennett Ave. Babies are always welcome.

This month’s discussion, “ Breastfeeding: Great Beginnings For Mother and Baby,” will focus on avoiding and overcoming difficulties. Pregnancy is an ideal time to begin attending meetings, and mothers find continued attendance provides support throughout their breastfeeding experience. All concerns about breastfeeding are welcome for discussion.

New Auburn Seniors meetings

AUBURN — The New Auburn Seniors continue to meet at St. Louis Church.

An open bingo will be held at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 10.

On Wednesday, July 17, a meal of spaghetti, meatballs, salad and dessert will be held for $5.

Open bingo will be held on Wednesdays, July 24 and 31. All seniors are welcome.

Sabattus Summer Fest

LEWISTON —  The Town of Sabattus will hold its seventh annual Sabattus Summer Fest for town residents from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 11, at Town Hall. If the sun is shining, the picnic will be outdoors, if it’s raining we’ll take it inside.

Residents will enjoy free barbecued burgers, hot dogs and all the fixings. Music will once again be provided by Union Street Sound.

New this year will be a hula hoop contest in addition to games. The Sabattus fire and police departments will show off their trucks.

Residents should bring a picnic blanket or chair and a big appetite.

Children under the age of 15 must be accompanied by an adult. This event is made possible by the generosity of local businesses and residents.

GAHS raffle winners named

LEWISTON — Steven Dostie, executive director, has announced the winners of the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society’s Annual Summer Raffle.

With more than $10,250 in tickets sales the winners were: Geralyn Crane of Auburn winning $500 cash, Melody Holmquist of Peru winning $300, Joshua Bunker of Leeds winning $200 and Frances Passalaqua winning $100. All proceeds from the raffle directly benefit the Humane Society.

The Greater Androscoggin Humane Society provides a safe haven for more than 5,500 sick, homeless and abused animals in the greater Androscoggin area per year. The primary support for the shelter comes from fundraising events and donations of concerned citizens.
