Spinning demo, herb workshop
NEW GLOUCESTER —A demonstration and a workshop are planned for Saturday, July 13, at the Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village, Route 26.
Come see the R & R Spinners, a Maine group of hand-spinners, process fibers and show their traditional skills and creations at a free demonstration beginning at 10 a.m. A variety of antique and contemporary spinning wheels will be used.
Learn how to grow, cultivate and use the favored herb lavender at a workshop to be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Instructor Betsey-Ann Golon combines her experience as herbalist at Shaker Village along with her tenure at George Washington’s historic Mount Vernon estate. Fee $40.

Climate Riders Potluck is July 15
AUBURN — Auburn UU invites the community to meet the Climate Riders at a potluck supper from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, July 15.
The Climate Riders are six young adults who have “committed their summer to living their values, traveling exclusively by bicycle with no support vehicles and learning from/working with communities across New England to keep building a better future beyond fossil fuels.”
Sara Karam, of the First Universalist Church of Auburn’s Social Justice Committee, is hosting this group throughout the week, as they do community service projects around the Twin Cities. “We support their mission,” says Karam, “which is in keeping with our own.”

Dempsey plans juicing workshop
LEWISTON — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing is offering a free juicing workshop for cancer patients, survivors and caregivers. “Juicing with Judy” will take place Wednesday, July 17, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Dempsey Center, 29 Lowell St.
Judy Donnelly will help you explore the world of fruits, vegetables and blenders. She’ll discuss the many benefits of juicing and treat you to some tasty concoctions.
