State police arrested Leanna Norris of Auburn and charged her with murder in the death of her 2-year-old daughter.
Loh Grenda died June 23 in Newport.
Norris, 24, was taken into custody Wednesday morning at a Rockport medical facility where she was being treated, according to state police spokesman Steve McCausland. The medical examiner has not yet ruled on a cause of death but did rule it a homicide.
The arrest is a result of an indictment returned last week by a Penobscot County grand jury. Norris was taken to the Penobscot County Jail and is expected to be arraigned on the murder charge Friday morning in Bangor.
Norris lives in Auburn but used to live in Stetson, which borders Newport.
McCausland said Loh Grenda, 2, was found dead early Monday morning in a car outside a Mt. Pleasant Road home. Police were called at 3 a.m.
The State Medical Examiner’s Office conducted an autopsy Monday and test results are pending, McCausland said in a news release.
Detectives are interviewing family and friends as they investigate the circumstances of Grenda’s death.
