AUBURN — Leonard Victor Young, 66, of Auburn, passed away on Sunday, June 30, at the Auburn Hospice House. He was the husband of Sandra L. (Gagnon) Young.

He was born Dec. 22, 1946, in Gouldsboro, a son of the late Maynard and Adelia (Moore) Young. At age 4, he was diagnosed with Polio. After graduating from Gouldsboro Grammar School, he attended Pineland Center in New Gloucester. He became very self-sufficient and did not let his disease hold him back; in fact until his recent illness, he would walk many miles around Lewiston-Auburn.

In July 1972, he married Sandra L. Gagnon. He enjoyed watching wrestling and doing puzzles as well as old country music and Westerns. He had a great sense of humor and a beautiful smile, which made him many friends over the years.

Besides his wife of 41 years, he is survived by six brothers, Earl Young and his wife, Cheryl, of Gouldsboro, Lawrence Young and his wife, Pat, of Hancock, Carl Young and his wife, Jeannine, of Bangor, Morris Young and his wife, Joyce, of Ellsworth, Warren Young and his wife, Melissa, of Gouldsboro and Jeff Young of Trenton; two sisters, Loretta Ray of Winter Harbor and Wanda Theobald and her husband, Charles, of Winslow; a brother-in-law, Joseph Grover of South Gouldsboro; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and friends.

He was also the brother of the late Marie Grover, Larry and Gilbert Young.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to the special nurses at Marshwood Nursing Home as well as the great team at the Androscoggin Health Care and Hospice.
