WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Sen. Angus King, I-Maine, a member of the Senate Armed Service Committee and the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, recently visited Nizip 2 Syrian refugee camp near Gaziantep, Turkey.
The camp, one of 20 built and maintained by the Turkish government, is home to more than 5,000 Syrian refugees who have fled their country, according to a press release issued Tuesday from King’s office.
King and Chairman of the Armed Services Committee Sen. Carl Levin are in Turkey and Jordan this week to observe the impact of the situation in Syria on the region, and on U.S. national security interests. As a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee and Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, King has been closely monitoring the situation in Syria.
King said in a June MSNBC interview he was “reluctant and cautious” about U.S. involvement in Syria because he “wants to know what the end game is.”
