Savvy Caregiver training July 9

AUGUSTA — Spectrum Generations Family Caregiver Support Program’s next six-week Maine Savvy Caregiver training will begin Tuesday, July 9, at the VA Maine Health Care System, Togus Campus Bldg. 207, Route 135, 1 VA Center.

The course will be held on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to noon through Aug. 13. Sessions include training, interactive exercises and discussion. Between sessions, caregivers have readings, exercises and assignments to complete and report back to the group on the home activities.

Based on the idea that family members often take on care-giving without preparation or training, participants learn what dementia is and how it affects the individual and develop skills on how to interact and communicate with a person with dementia. Caregivers will also find out where to go for resources and services to help support themselves, as well as the person with dementia.

Preregistration is required. For more information or to register, call Tina or Liz at 620-1657 or 620-1656 or visit www.spectrumgenerations.org. They can also offer dates and times for Family Caregiver Support Groups in your area.
