HAMPDEN (AP) — Authorities say a police officer fatally shot a Hampden man who pointed a gun at officers.

Police were called to a home on Main Road South around 9 p.m. Sunday for reports of a suicidal man.

Director of Public Safety Joe Rogers tells WABI-TV (http://bit.ly/1634yYK ) that when officers arrived, they were told someone else in the home might be in trouble.

He says when officers entered, a man inside pointed a gun at them.

One officer opened fire, killing the man.

No names were released.

As is standard, the officer was placed on administrative leave pending an investigation by the state attorney general’s office.

It was the second police involved shooting of the weekend in Maine. A state trooper shot a West Paris man on Saturday. He is recovering
