Lithuanian club bus outing
RUMFORD — The local Lithuanian Heritage Club is planning a bus outing on Sunday, July 21, to the Lithuanian Friendship Day Picnic in Putnam, Conn.
This picnic is opened to the public and is organized by the Sisters of the Immaculate Conception every year. The program consists of an outdoor Mass at 11 a.m., a lunch at noon with lots of good Lithuanian foods, an arts and craft fair, music, folk dancing and more.

Diabetes Tour de Cure
WELLS — The 2013 Kennebunks Tour de Cure will take place on Sunday, June 9, at the Wells Reserve at Laudholm to help raise critical funds for The American Diabetes Association for research, education and advocacy. The Tour de Cure is designed for anyone from the occasional rider to the experienced cyclist, with 5K, 25K, 50K, 100K and 100-mile routes.
The fundraising goal of the 2013 Kennebunks Tour de Cure is $450,000. The Tour de Cure raises funds through registration fees and pledges collected by the cyclists. Summer nature program for kids
LITCHFIELD — Kennebec Land Trust will hold its Summer Children’s Nature Program at KLT’s Small-Burnham Conservation Area from 9 a.m. to noon Monday and Tuesday, June 24 and June 25. Drop-off begins at 8:45 a.m.
The program, for ages 6 to 12, will be based around using the senses for exploring the natural world.

Activities will include: hiking, with opportunities to learn about Maine’s plants and animals; nature games in the field and the forest; craft projects with materials gathered from the land; time to play and form bonds with nature and new friends; and exploration of the glacial marine clay bank along a stream the family calls “The Nile,” where clay was dug for pottery.
The child to adult ratio will be eight to one. Each child will need a change of clothes, a snack, a hat and sunscreen. Children must wear close-toed shoes or sneakers.
In the event of rain, the program will be held in the Small/Morris barn.
PeaceMaker nominees
BRUNSWICK — PeaceWorks seeks nominees for their annual PeaceMaker Award.
Nominees can be an individual or a group whose work helps the community to be more peaceful, whose leadership comes from a place of cooperation and compassion, whose efforts help us to move toward a world in which all children can thrive.
Send a paragraph or two about the person or group of people in our community helping to shift our culture to one in which all children can thrive. One nominee will be honored with the 2013 PeaceMaker Award, which will be presented at the Peace Fair on Saturday, Aug. 3. The theme of this year’s Peace Fair is Children Ask the World of Us.

Students need exchange hosts
STATEWIDE — World Heritage Student Exchange Program, a highly respected, nonprofit, public-benefit organization, is seeking local host families for high school boys and girls from Scandinavia, France, Germany, Italy, Thailand, China, South Korea, the former Soviet Republics and other countries.
Students are already awaiting word on their host families for the 2013-14 academic school year, or a semester. Host families provide room, board and guidance for a teenager living thousands of miles from home. Couples, single parents and families with or without children in the home are all encouraged to apply.
The exchange students arrive from their home country shortly before the school year begins and each World Heritage student is fully insured, brings his/her own personal spending money and expects to bear his/her share of household responsibilities, as well as being included in normal family activities and lifestyles.

Extension seeks volunteers
FALMOUTH — Cumberland County Extension Association has openings for people to serve on their board. Extension programs are run by University of Maine Cooperative Extension and are designed to bring practical, research-based information from the University of Maine into the county to meet local needs.
In partnership with the University of Maine Cooperative Extension staff, each County Extension Association coordinates development of a plan of work, helps hire staff and oversees the county budget appropriations that support educational Extension programs for county residents.
