WEST PARIS — The town is celebrating Old Home Days this weekend with a He-Man contest and fireworks scheduled for Friday and a parade, veterans’ ceremony, chicken barbecue and baby show Saturday.
The theme is Red, White and Blue, West Paris Salutes You. The West Paris Old Home Days Committee, which sponsors the event, is comprised of living military veterans who reside in town or formerly lived here, committee member Karen Birney said.
“We sent out 100 invitations to veterans of West Paris who live in town now or did in the past and asked them to be the grand marshals,” she said. “We’ve had 20 who responded, so far, so we’re pretty excited.”
Any veteran from West Paris, either past or present residents, interested in participating in the parade and recognition ceremony is invited to contact Birney at 207-462-8572 or email her at kbirney@megalink.net.
Old Home Days begins at 5 p.m. with a flag ceremony in front of the Town Office on Kingsbury Street. Jim Bennett will present “Salute to America.”
From 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, Summit Adventures will have amusements set up on a midway on Kingsbury Street. They include a climbing wall, a high trapeze and a bouncy house. Admittance will be with a bracelet purchased on the premises.
Wagon rides by Meadow Creek Farm will be offered all day Saturday and based at the Kingsbury Street midway.
