FORT BENNING, Ga. — Sgt. James Trottier of Minot successfully completed the three phases of the Ranger Course at Ft. Benning on Jan. 25.
The first phase was the Darby Phase at the 4th Ranger Training Brigade, the second phase was the Mountain Phase at the 5th RTB and the third phase was the Swamp or Florida Phase at the 6th RTB.
Trottier is stationed with the 1st Battalion 75th Ranger Regiment at Hunter Army Air Base in Savannah, Ga. He is on deployment in Afghanistan.
Trottier graduated from Edward Little High School in 1991. He is the son of Susan and Gerry Trottier from Minot.
COLUMBIA, S.C. — Two area residents have graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson.
Army Reserve Pvt. Joshua Hart is a 2008 graduate of Mount Ararat High School, Topsham.
Army National Guard Pvt. Jordan A. Fox is the daughter of Jennifer Fox of Beech Hill Road, Lewiston. She is a 2011 graduate of Lisbon High School.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldiers studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches and field training exercises.
NEW LONDON, Conn. — Jacob R. Naum has graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy with a bachelor of science degree and a commission as an ensign.
The Coast Guard Academy offers a four-year educational program of instruction designed to provide cadets the knowledge and experience essential to become leaders of character. As one of the smallest of the five federal service academies, the academy offers a higher education experience that emphasizes leadership, physical fitness and professional development. Cadets are required to devote themselves to an honor concept and after graduation go directly into positions of leadership in service to others.
Naum is the son of Jeffrey and Susan Naum of Perkins Ridge Road, Auburn.
He graduated in 2009 from St. Dominic Regional High School, Auburn.
PARRIS ISLAND, S.C. — Marine Corps Pvt. Niko A. Potter, son of Danielle Iacono of Lewiston and James Iacono of Saco, earned the title of United States Marine after graduating from recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot.
For 13 weeks, Potter stayed committed during some of the world’s most demanding entry-level military training in order to be transformed from civilian to Marine instilled with pride, discipline and the core values of honor, courage and commitment. Training subjects included close-order drill, marksmanship with an M-16A4 rifle, physical fitness, martial arts, swimming, military history, customs and courtesies.
One week prior to graduation, Potter endured The Crucible, a 54-hour final test of recruits’ minds and bodies. Upon completion, recruits are presented the Marine Corps emblem and called Marines for the first time.
Potter is a 2012 graduate of Lewiston High School of Lewiston.
