Memorial Day in Litchfield

LITCHFIELD — The members of American Legion, William R. Bold 181 and the Ladies Auxiliary will conduct Memorial Day activities on Monday, May 27, beginning with a parade at 9 a.m. at the Central Fire Station to the monument area of the Litchfield Plains Cemetery, followed by memorial and recognition activities.

The program should be completed by 10:15 a.m. William Christopoulos will be the main speaker.

In case of inclement weather the activities minus the parade will take place at the Carrie Ricker School gymnasium. Refreshments will follow at the Post home.

WWII crash to be part of events

NEW GLOUCESTER — A tragic WWII plane crash took place over the skies of New Gloucester in 1943. Two British pilots training out of Brunswick Training Station collided in mid air and both were killed.

The crash became part of local lore and will be commemorated by the addition of the British pilots’ name to the town’s proposed new Veterans’ Monument.

The new Veterans’ Monument will be featured in the 2013 New Gloucester Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 27.

Free reflexology workshop June 5

LEWISTON – The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing will offer a free reflexology workshop for cancer patients, survivors and caregivers. “A New Look at Your Feet” will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, at the Dempsey Center, 29 Lowell St.

Myra S. Achorn, a nationally board certified foot and hand reflexologist and teacher, will discuss how reflexology improves circulation and reduces body stress through applying pressure to certain points on the feet. It works through the nervous system and offers an incredible foot treatment. Registration limited to 30.

Girl Scout Daisy information

AUBURN — Girl Scouts of Maine will host a girl and adult Girl Scout Daisy information night at 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, at the United Methodist Church of Auburn, 439 Park Ave.

Girls entering kindergarten and first grade this coming fall and their parents/chaperones from the Auburn and Lewiston area are invited to attend the informational meeting to find out about the many different and fun ways today’s girls are participating in Girl Scouting and how the Daisy program and activities inspire them to reach their personal best.

Girls will have an opportunity to sample some activities and adults will also learn about the flexible options and benefits of becoming a Girl Scout volunteer.
