LITCHFIELD — Gertrude “Gerta” Douglass, 62, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May 12, at home while drinking coffee and listening to a Mother’s day message from her daughter saying “Happy Mother’s day.”

She was born Feb. 18, 1951. Gerta was a very friendly and giving person. She touched many people’s lives and enjoyed life to the fullest. She enjoyed gardening and raising her animals. She was a pillar of the community. She ran the Hood’s ice cream truck and drove for Hood’s Dairy.

David Douglass and Ernie Pinkham were Gerta’s life long companions and worked together managing a crew of workers for the Maine Blueberry Raking harvest. She also worked in a shoe shop, managed a hardware store and was a waitress. But her favorite job was working as a flagger with her CMP fellas.

She has six children, Karmen Levy, Nicole Hunt, Eddie, Franzie, Sophia, and Damien Pinkham; nine grandchildren, Amber Lord, Raven and Mathew Hunt, Kaydence Purington, Aaron Miller and Oasis Bonafont, Mekhi Bulu, soon to be delivered Smoked Blaisdell, Kacey and Jackson Pinkham; she has one great-granddaughter, Tatiana Hunt.

Gerta was predeceased by her mother, Walburger Brandstatter; and sisters, Elfi Doucette and Leiane Desrosiers.
