SOUTH PORTLAND — Ian McLaughlin of Durham was named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at Southern Maine Community College.
McLaughlin, the son of Jim and Patty McLaughlin, is a graduate of Brunswick High School Class of 2010. He is majoring in dietetics and nutrition.

ELMIRA, N.Y. — Elmira College held its annual Academic Honors and Student Recognition Banquet, celebrating academic achievement and the contributions of students to clubs and organizations.
Alexandra Hood of Lewiston was honored at the event and received the Mary Lou Parrella ’65 Prize. The Mary Lou Parrella ’65 Prize is given by Lina Parrella in memory of her niece, a member of the Class of 1965, to a gifted undergraduate student in the field of fine arts.

KEENE, N.H. — Keene State College’s 13th annual Academic Excellence Conference took place on April 6. This student professional conference is designed to showcase the academic work of Keene State students and the collaborative work between students and faculty. It allows students to share excellent work with a broad audience, and prepares them for submitting proposals to professional conferences.
Among the participating students was Eliza Smiley of New Sharon, who presented on “Rebuilding Bosnia Through Education and Advocacy.”

PORTLAND — The Maine Maritime Academy’s Regiment of Midshipmen change of command ceremony was held on Feb. 4 at the Alexander Fieldhouse in Castine.
Outgoing senior and executive officer Angela Fouquette was among those honored.
The ceremony relieved the outgoing senior class of their responsibility as Regiment leaders and placed that responsibility on the elected junior class students.
Fouquette is a resident of New Gloucester and a member of the Cheverus High School Class of 2009.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Joseph Stevens of Lewiston graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science degree in software engineering from RIT’s B. Thomas Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences in the winter 2012-13 quarter.

QUEBEC — Scott Potter of Auburn has received a $7,500 grant from the B.E.S.T. (The Bishop’s Experiential or Service Term) Projects Fund from Bishop’s University in Quebec, Canada.
Potter is a first year French and classics major. His grant project is to spend six weeks with the Paideia Institute in Rome where he will be in Latin immersion, using it as a language of living communication. He hopes to go on and get a master’s degree in teaching Latin from the University of Kentucky after graduating from Bishop’s and then find a position as a Latin teacher in a high school.
Potter graduated from Cheverus with the Class of 2012.

STANDISH — For 21 years, groups of Saint Joseph’s College students have dedicated their spring break to week-long service projects. This year, more than 25 students participated in service trips to Flat Gap, Ky., to participate in the Christian Appalachian Project, which focuses on building and renovating houses; Westchester County, N.Y., to help build safe, decent and affordable housing with Habitat for Humanity, and to continue delivering aid to victims of Hurricane Sandy; Indian Island, Maine, for an immersion experience at the Penobscot Indian Island Reservation along with the Sisters of Mercy; and Camden, N.J., to work alongside other volunteers at The Romero Center.
Chandel Bouthot of Lewiston, a junior pre-physician assistant student, volunteered in Indian Island.
Robert Buck of Lewiston, a sophomore biology/pre-medicine student, volunteered in Westchester County, N.Y.
Lindsay Carr of Lewiston, a senior nursing and theology student, volunteered in Camden, N.J.
