AUGUSTA — The Lighthouse Chapter, an “at large” chapter of the Maine Affiliate of the National Federation of the Blind, will hold its second annual meeting from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 27, at Pat’s Pizza on State Street.

The Maine Affiliate of the National Federation of the Blind is the statewide organization supporting the national organization and movement of the federation. As state affiliates of the NFB grow, local chapters are organized, granted that there enough members in one locale to support and run a chapter.

The at-large chapter has existed for a year and a half. “At large” means that members are not centrally located, but come together once a month to “meet” by phone. The group is getting close to the point that it could organize locally in a couple of cities.

The chapter comes together to meet in person once a year in April. Members meet up again at the NFB of Maine State Convention each year in October. This year it is Oct. 26 in Auburn.

Attendees at the gathering order off Pat’s menu and cover their own meal and tip. There is no cost to come to the meeting. There will be an opportunity to renew membership dues or to join as a member of the NFB. There will also be a 50/50 raffle, hands-on instruction on iPhone and other Apple devices, sign-ups for NFB Newsline and an opportunity to bring up questions and concerns.
