AUBURN — On Thursday, March 14, Roland Jordan will present a program on the Maine Inscription Project of the Maine Old Cemetery Association. The 2 p.m. program will be held at the Woman’s Literary Union at 19 Elm St.

The Maine Inscription Project is the documentation of all burials in Maine’s Old Cemeteries and is currently at about 7,000 cemeteries and more than 1 million burials documented. MOCA is dedicated to the preservation of Maine’s neglected cemeteries. It was formed in 1968 and members have been transcribing cemeteries ever since, and have spent the past several years turning paper records into a database.

Jordan is a member of the Jordan Family Association, and in 2001 (along with Andy Annonson) published “The Family Jordan,” a three volume set of the descendants of Rev. Robert Jordan and Sarah Winter of Cape Elizabeth.

Jordan is an Auburn native, and has served as president, vice president and membership secretary of the Maine Inscription Project. He currently serves as treasurer and MIP chairman.

The WLU community project for the month of March is Trinity Jubilee. Members are urged to bring in donations of toiletries, clothing for children and adults, and disposable diapers.

Jeanne Pacheco and June vanMourick are in charge of refreshments. The public is invited to the program. For more information, contact womansliteraryunion@gmail.com.
