HARRISON — Fire crews from five different communities responded to a Sunday evening fire that gutted a home at 22 Front St.

According to Deputy Chief Nate Sessions, the department received the 911 call about 6:50 p.m. from a passer-by who noticed the smoke. The family was not home at the time.

Sessions said that when they arrived at the house owned by Dan Maxfield, there was extensive fire throughout the two-story building and the kitchen was fully involved.

Other fire crews responded from the Naples, Norway, Bridgton and Waterford departments and knocked down the fire in about 45 minutes.

According to Sessions, the house is “unlivable” and a total loss. He said he thinks the fire began in the kitchen, but fire investigators will determine the official cause.

The home is adjacent to the town office, which was not damaged. Sessions said the home was luckily within the limited town water supply area.

Sessions did not know whether Maxfield carried insurance, but he said the family is staying with relatives locally and the Red Cross was not called in.
