INDUSTRY — Voters will have their say on a proposed $6,207 increase in this year’s municipal budget, Town Clerk Angel Davis said Tuesday.

The annual town meeting begins at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 9, at the Town Hall. Elections for one selectman’s position will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. that day.

Third Selectman Michael Senecal is unopposed for another three-year term, she said.

The proposed budget for 2013 is $390,728 and includes some decreases to offset three proposed expenses, Davis said.

The town is looking at new accounting municipal software, an update of town tax maps and setting aside half the amount, $25,000, needed for a town revaluation.

Residents are being asked to provide half the amount this year and another $25,000 next year for the revaluation, she said.

Within the 43 articles under consideration, adoption of a wind power ordinance is included. It set standards for developers, she said.

“The proposed ordinance defines a minimum safety buffer distance in accordance with the height of the proposed turbines,” according to a release from the Planning Board. “The purpose of the safety buffer is to ensure the protection of residents and properties from falling or thrown debris in the event of a catastrophic event, and from the effect of noise generated by the operation of windmills.”

A study to measure the effect of turbine sound travel in Industry recommends a safety buffer of 7,000 feet from surrounding properties for major installations.

A wind power committee, including Planning Board members and residents, formed last year to devise the ordinance, she said.
