ROXBURY — Voters approved a $704,263 municipal budget at Monday night’s annual town meeting in the Town Hall.
Taxpayers raised $460,846.45 last year. The budget does not include school and county assessments, which aren’t known until June.
About 30 residents completed the 80-article warrant in two hours and 15 minutes, Town Clerk Nina Hodgkins said Tuesday afternoon.
Hodgkins and Selectman Michael Worthley said voters approved just about every article.
Voters approved Article 17, which sought to raise and/or appropriate $1,500 for the Fire Equipment Reserve Account. Article, 18, which asked the same thing, but had different appropriation and balance-forward amounts, was passed over.
Among social services requests, voters went with selectmen’s recommendations to give $369 to the American Red Cross, $738 to Safe Voices and $738 to Community Concepts.
They agreed to raise and/or appropriate $400 for the Hope Association; selectmen recommended $369.
Selectmen sided with a request of $200 for Western Maine Transportation Services and voters were ready to approve that, Hodgkins said.
However, a spokesman from the nonprofit public transportation corporation, changed that.
“The spokesperson said they were grateful (for the $200), but he was only asking for $100,” Hodgkins said. “He said Roxbury didn’t really use them last year, but he felt he’d rather have Roxbury use the money elsewhere.”
The article was amended to $100 and approved.
Hodgkins said the meeting, which began at 6 p.m., adjourned at 8:15 p.m. Oxford County Commissioner David Duguay of Byron moderated.
“He did a very good job,” Hodgkins said.
In municipal elections, Selectman Timothy Derouche and Renee Hodsdon, deputy town clerk, tax collector and treasurer, were re-elected to three-year terms. They ran unopposed.
