LEEDS — Work is underway for the third annual Rural Community Action Ministry Auction for Action. The auction will be held on Saturday, April 6, at the Leeds Community Church, 123 Church Hill Road. This will be a great evening of entertainment, refreshments and both a silent and live auction. Proceeds of the auction will provide fuel assistance to elderly and at-risk members of RCAM’s 13 town service area.

Music, refreshments, preview of the live auction items and the silent auction will begin at 6 p.m, with the live auction beginning at 7:30.

Errol “Abe” Additon will be the auctioneer, and if you’ve ever heard him chant the tongue twister “Betty Botter bought some butter, but she said this butter’s bitter …” you know that in itself is worth the price of admission!

Singer-songwriter Mike Ladd from Wayne will provide the entertainment. His clear, tuneful voice combines with precise, melodic guitar playing to make each song, ranging from 60s rock to his own pieces, a moving experience.

The Leeds Community Church Women’s Association will once again provide a variety of finger rolls, beverages and desserts to enjoy as attendees check out the silent auction or enjoy the music.

Admission to the event is $10 for adults and includes refreshments, music and, of course, the chance to go home with some really great items. There is no charge for children under 12.

Items up for bid include four box seat tickets to the Red Sox, a Maine-made jelly cabinet, a weekend get-away at Sugarloaf, a handmade quilt, garlic to flavor a favorite recipe, a hand-carved fairy house, pet items and a specialty basket filled with Cabot Cheese. In addition there are gift certificates to a wide variety of businesses and goods and services.

To make a donation to the auction, call the RCAM office at 524-5095 to arrange for someone to pick up the item.
