STONEHAM — A Rhode Island woman was taken to the hospital complaining of injuries Saturday afternoon after her snowmobile hit a small tree, according to the Maine Warden Service.

Elizabeth Shaker, 59, was on a groomed trail three-quarters of a mile off Allen Road at 1 p.m. when the right ski of her 2008 Arctic Cat Jaguar struck a tree, throwing her off, Cpl. John MacDonald said.

Shaker, of Warren, R.I., was wearing a helmet and had been riding in a party of snowmobilers. She was taken to Stephens Memorial Hospital with leg, wrist and back pain.

Later in the day, wardens also responded to Sebago Lake in Standish for a snowmobile through the ice. Dennis Dubois, 53, from Gorham went in the water 10 feet from shore on his 1994 Polaris.

He made it to a nearby home for help, wet but otherwise OK, MacDonald said.
