Meeting about tar sands oil
HARRISON — An informational meeting about tar sands oil, plans to pump it through Harrison via the Portland Pipe Line Company’s pipeline and its potential environmental and economic impact will be given at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, at the Harrison Public Library.

RUMFORD — The Lithuanian Heritage Club will meet at noon Wednesday, Feb. 6, at Sam’s. The dues for 2013 will be collected at the meeting.
AARP chapter to meet Feb. 11
PARIS — The Oxford Hills Chapter of AARP will meet on Monday, Feb. 11, at the First Congregational Church on East Main Street.
Lunch will be served at noon and will include oven baked chicken with all the fixings. The cost is $6.50 and reservations are required by calling Ruth at 744-9069 by Friday, Feb. 8.
The business meeting will begin at 1 p.m. Dues should be paid at this meeting. Members are reminded to bring donations for the Food Pantry.
For those going on the March bus trip, that money will also be due. The program this month is “Gidgets, Gadgets and Thingamabobs” presented by Jeff Auger.
Red Hot Mommas valentines tea
MEXICO — The Red Hot Mommas of Western Maine will hold a Valentine’s Day Tea at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, at the Mexico Congregational church. The cost is $10 to be paid to Isabel by Friday, Feb. 8.
Twenty-one Red Hot Mommas met on Jan. 31 at the United Methodist Church Virgin Memorial Chapel in Rumford. A spaghetti supper was served by the church women.
The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 27, at the Far East Restaurant. To reserve a spot, call Isabel by Friday, Feb. 22.
Valentine’s dance at Elks Lodge
FARMINGTON — A Valentine’s dance for members and guests will be held from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at the Farmington Elks Lodge.

DIY valentine workshop Feb. 9
FARMINGTON — Everyone’s Resource Depot invites children and adults to “make your valentines with us” at workshops on Saturday, Feb. 9, from 10 a.m. to noon, and Feb. 11-14 from 3 to 5 p.m.
Those who attend will be able to choose from a wide variety of materials: yarn and ribbon, card stock and red envelopes, glitter and sequins, odd bits of lace and trim, and pretty papers. Many sample valentines will be on display. All ages are welcome. $1 will be charged to cover materials and instruction.
ERD is in the Education Center (Room 9) on the UMF campus at the corner of High and Lincoln streets. It is open to the public during regular business hours, Monday through Friday from 3 to 5 p.m. and Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon.
ERD’s programs like valentine workshops are offered to the public to create awareness of the fun involved in reusing scrap materials. ERD has been promoting creative recycling for more than 30 years. For more information, call 778-7150.

HARRISON — The Ronald St. John VFW Post on the Waterford Road will hold a BYOB dance from 8 p.m. to midnight Saturday, Feb. 9.

Honey Bee Club workshop Feb. 9
PARIS — Oxford Hills Honey Bee Club will hold a workshop at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at the Oxford County Extension Center, 9 Olson Road.

Swingin’ Bears February dance
PARIS — The February dance of the Swingin’ Bears Square Dance Club of South Paris will feature Darrell Sprague calling for the square dancing and Carol Stewart Arsenault cueing for the round dancing. It will be held as usual at the Oxford Hills Middle School, 100 Pine St., from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9.
Those who began taking lessons in September or October are welcome to join for the class level dancing. There will also be Mainstream level and Plus level. Round dancing will be cued after each square dancing tip.
There will be refreshments at intermission, door prizes and a Pot O’ Gold drawing. Admission is $6 per person. Non-dancers are welcome at no charge.
