Winter hike at Puzzle Mtn.
NEWRY — Puzzle Mountain is the first Mahoosuc Land Trust winter hike at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19.
The strenuous hike requires snowshoes and poles. Bring water and lunch. Meet at the Grafton Loop Trailhead, 4.5 miles north of the Bear River Trading Post, Route 26, in Newry.
Stephens High Class of 1950
RUMFORD — Members of the Stephens High School Class of 1950 are invited to have lunch at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 21, at the River Valley Grill. All members and guests are invited.
Fee-free day in White Mountains
CAMPTON, N.H. — In celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day the White Mountain National Forest will join with national forests across the country in waiving fees at all day-use areas on Jan. 21.
Day use fees will be waived across the White Mountain National Forest. However, fees will remain in effect for overnight camping, cabin rentals, permits, reservations and activities offered by concessionaires.
Rotary to deliver sandwiches
RUMFORD — River Valley Rotary will be making and delivering fresh lobster and chicken sandwiches on Monday, Jan. 28. The cost is $8 for a sandwich, beverage, chips and a dessert. Call Greg Trundy at 364-7225 before Jan. 23.
Seniors welcome day trippers
RUMFORD — The Rumford Senior Center is planning a trip to Bangor Slots on Feb. 8. The cost is $25. A sign-up sheet is at the center. A near-full bus is needed to make the trip possible; space is still available.
On Feb. 1 participants will travel to see the show “The Hound of the Baskervilles” at The Public Theatre in Lewiston. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. Cost is $37 for the bus and show. The bus will leave the center at 4 p.m. and will be stopping at the Landmark Restaurant in Turner for dinner, which each person is responsible for. Space is limited so sign up before the trip is sold out.
Dinner, dance aids Piper family
RUMFORD — A dinner and dance to benefit Todd Piper and his family will be held from 5 to 11 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at the Rumford Falls Eagles Hall function side.
Music will be provided by a DJ. There will be a door prize and raffle items.
Tickets are $15 for dinner and dance and are available at Island Indulgence and Ellis Pond Variety (Mexico One Stop) and will also be sold at the door.
