LEWISTON — The Ark, 791 Lisbon St., will present The Family Herbalist classes by Karen Blanchard and Jane Kuntz, certified family herbalists. They will hold a series of hands-on workshops on herbs and healing. The first series is on “Creating a Family Home Remedy Chest.”

Each of the following classes will run from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Class size is limited so registration is essential. Contact Karen at (207) 926-5551 or Jane at (207) 432-9063.

There is a charge of $10 per class to cover cost of materials. There are limited scholarship funds available.

Class one, “Preventing Winter Ills,” herbs for the immune system, will take place Tuesday, Jan. 15.

Class two, “Stop That Cough!” on Tuesday, Jan. 22, will address coughs, sore throats and congestion. Soothing lozenges, syrup, teas and more will be discussed.

Class three, “Soups On!,” will be about medicinal soups, teas and gruels. Sample delicious, healing food remedies and take home the recipes at the Tuesday, Jan. 29 class.

Class four, “Charcoal,” is on Tuesday, Feb. 5. Charcoal is a miracle working remedy for bites, stings and infections. The multiple uses of medicinal charcoal will be discussed.

Class five on Tuesday, Feb. 12, on the topic of “Diet and Inflammation” will address how to eat, and what herbs to use to combat inflammation. Participants will make their own triple-antibiotic salve.

Class six, “Oh, My Aching Head!,” will teach the different kinds of headache and their causes, and simple measures to bring relief. Participants will create a bath aroma therapy in the Tuesday, Feb. 19, session.

Class seven on Tuesday, Feb. 26, will be on “Assembling Your Family Medicine Chest,” where participants will put it all together and take it home.

The Ark, in the former Pizza Hut building, is affiliated with the Northern New England Conference, a nonprofit organization for the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
