The Harrison Lion’s Club sponsored the Harrison Parks and Recreation’s November Senior Social at the community room. Due to the Lion’s generosity all seniors enjoyed a delicious meal free of charge. A member of the Lion’s spoke about a program that is changing people’s lives around the country. Pictured is Lion Charlene Goranitis with her dog Beau that she and her husband Duke are raising for the Canine Companion for Independence Program that provides assistance dogs to folks who are physically challenged, hearing impaired along with skilled companion dogs for children and adults with severe disabilities and facility dogs for professionals that go into rehabilitation facilities, special ed. classrooms etc. Once these dogs are raised in homes for 16 to 18 months, then professionally trained for six to nine months, they are then matched with a person for two weeks learning to work together as master and service dog. There is no cost to the recipient of a Canine Companion Assistant Dog. For more information about the program contact Duke and Charlene Goranitis at 647-9438.
