On Sept. 12, the National Weather Service office in Gray presented Dennis Pike with two awards: Length of Service Award for 45 years and a John Campanius Holm Award. Pike has faithfully taken weather observations every day at midnight for more than 45 years as a Cooperative Weather Observer. His observations play a critical role in contributing to the knowledge and understanding of the local, national and global climate. Pike’s dedication and quality of observations of measuring temperature, rainfall and snow depth from Farmington also earned him a John Campanius Holm Award. The Holm Award is given out to only 25 Cooperative Weather Observers a year, and there are more than 11,000 Cooperative Weather Observers across the United States. Pike, left, is pictured with Hendricus Lulfos, Meteorologist In Charge at NWS Gray, Maine.
