OXFORD — Working together for the benefit of area elementary school children, a nonprofit, a local business, a family and numerous volunteers are partnering with SAD 17 to provide a six-week after school Nordic ski program for schools in the district.

Programs will be offered Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from Jan. 8 through Feb. 14 at three sites: Carters X-C Ski Center in Oxford, Russ and Judy Florenz’s Sunny Croft Farm in Paris and the Western Foothills Land Trust’s Roberts Farm Preserve in Norway. Transportation costs from three schools to the sites will be provided by SAD 17’s PEP grant. Buses will leave the schools at 3:05 and parents of children in the program will pick up their children at the ski locations at 5.

Otisfield and Oxford students who are at Oxford Elementary School will have the option to ski at Carter’s X-C Ski Center on Tuesdays. Students from Guy E. Rowe School in Norway will have the option to ski at Sunny Croft Farm in Paris on Wednesdays and students from Paris Elementary School will have the option to ski at Roberts Farm on Thursdays. Waterford and Harrison students with round trip transportation are welcomed to ski at Roberts Farm Preserve on Thursdays.

The cost will be $25 for the six sessions; ski equipment will be provided. Registration forms are available at all the elementary school offices.

Nordic skiers and those who could assist with outfitting and supporting the children are still needed for Roberts Farm Preserve and Carter’s sites. Anyone wishing to volunteer with these ski programs should contact Lee at the Western Foothills Land Trust at 739-2124.
