Wednesday story times

NORWAY — On Wednesdays in November, the Norway Memorial Library Children’s Room is hosting special story times at 10:30 a.m. Children ages 3 to 5 years old, along with their caregivers, are invited to hear a story and make a craft related to hibernation. Free and open to the public.

Sign ups for Christmas gifts

PARIS — The Families in Crisis Task Force will hold sign-ups for parents with children 12 years old and younger for Christmas gifts from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, and Friday, Nov. 16, at 659 Park St., Route 26.

Bring identification, proof of income and social security numbers for adults. Also have all sizes for children and ideas for clothes and toys they may want.

Historical Society potluck, meeting

WATERFORD — The final meeting of the Waterford Historical Society for the year will be a potluck supper at North Waterford Church on Thursday, Nov. 8, at 6 p.m. The program at 7 will be local musicians, with Marjorie Kimball and the Jones Dance Band featured.

Tax prep volunteers needed

NORWAY — Oxford County CA$H Coalition is looking for tax preparation volunteers to help local citizens prepare their tax returns. Each year Oxford County is missing out on an estimated $1 million in tax refunds because people are not filing their returns or filing them incorrectly. The CA$H program provides training for volunteers to help families with incomes under $51,000 obtain their tax refunds.

This program, in its fourth year, has helped numerous individuals and families get the returns they are owed. Oxford County CA$H is sponsored by Region 9 Adult Education, United Way of Oxford County, Community Concepts and the IRS. To learn more, contact Nancy Allen at 364-2012.

Deering Memorial Christmas sale

PARIS — A Christmas sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at Deering Memorial Methodist Church, 39 Main St.

Items will include gifts, baked goods and Mrs. Claus’ Closet. Santa will be there, too.

Fire Auxiliary public supper

PARIS — Paris Fire Department Auxiliary will hold a public supper at 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at Paris Fire Department, Western Avenue, South Paris.

Menu will include meatloaf, mashed potatoes, veggies, macaroni and cheese, salads, rolls and homemade desserts. Adults $8, ages 4-12 $4, ages 3 and under free. All proceeds will benefit the Paris Fire Department Auxiliary and Fire Personnel. A 50/50 raffle will also be held.

Veterans Day Dinner

BRIDGTON — The volunteers of the Bridgton Community Center will host the annual complimentary Veterans Day Dinner to be held at the dining hall of Oriental Masonic Lodge, Route 117, Harrison Road, at noon Sunday, Nov. 11.

A ham dinner with all the fixings will be served. All veterans and their families are invited to join in a time of feasting and fellowship as we honor all who have served in the country’s Armed Forces.

SCC celebrates Veterans Day

NORWAY — Second Congregational Church will celebrate veterans at the 10 a.m. worship service on Sunday, Nov. 11. The English Handbell Choir, under the direction of Elaine Emery, will play a selection of patriotic songs.

Veterans, as well as active duty military personnel, and their families are invited to participate as the church honors the sacrifices made by those who protect freedom and security.

Refreshments and a time for fellowship will be held immediately following the service. The church is at the corner of Main and Paris streets across from the Rowe School.

World’s Fair meeting is Nov. 11

WATERFORD — The November meeting for the Waterford World’s Fair Association will be held at the Waterford Town office on Sunday, Nov. 11, at 2 p.m. The town office is on Route 35.

GREENWOOD — SeniorsPlus, the area agency on aging, will be at the Greenwood Town Office from 8 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, the Norway Town Hall from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, and the Rumford Town Office from 8 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28. Representatives will be on hand to answer questions or concerns. All events are free and open to the public.

Community potluck supper

WATERFORD — The Wilkins Community House will hold a community potluck supper at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15. All are welcome.

The Community House is in Waterford Flat on Plummer Hill Road behind the village green next door to the church. Community suppers are held on the third Thursday of each month through May. The hosts for this supper are Waits and the Engdahls.
