Danville Grange program is Nov. 8
AUBURN — Danville Junction Grange 65 will meet at the hall on Thursday, Nov. 8, at 7 p.m. A Thanksgiving program will be presented by the lecturer. Refreshments will be served at the close of the meeting. All members and guests are welcome to attend.
Burnt Meadow DAR to meet
BOWDOIN — Burnt Meadow Chapter, National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution of Sabattus, will meet at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at the home of Joanne Coombs.
A brief program on the historic mountains of Maine will be shared. The newest member, Ethelind R. Wright, will be welcomed.
Special guest Virginia Spiller, state regent, will talk about leadership of the State DAR and the importance of communication between the local chapter and the state and national organizations. She will also introduce her owl mascot, “Miss Molly,” as a symbol of “watchfulness” to the members.

Legion Auxiliary craft fair Nov. 17

QuickBooks class starts Nov. 19
AUBURN — The Corporate and Community Services Department at Central Maine Community College will offer Introduction to QuickBooks 2011 on Mondays, Nov. 19 through Jan. 7, from 9 a.m. to noon. The cost is $275 and includes all materials. Deadline for registration is Nov. 12.

‘Managing Diabetes: The Next Step’
AUBURN — A free, patient-lead educational program will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, at St. Mary’s Center for Diabetes and Endocrinology, 15 Gracelawn Road. Doreen Bugai will share her experience with diabetes and taking insulin to help control her blood sugar.
Bugai is a specially trained member of the A1C Champions Program, which provides a patient-led approach to diabetes education. She has diabetes and takes insulin as part of her overall diabetes treatment plan that includes diet, exercise and other diabetes medications. A1C Champions know first-hand the challenges to managing diabetes and understand the fear and uncertainty about taking insulin. They share information about diabetes self-management and insulin based on formal training and their personal experiences.

Eastern Star meeting Nov. 13
WALES — Lakeside Chapter 60, Order of the Eastern Star, will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, at the Grange-Masonic Building, 322 Centre Road.
They will proclaim landmarks and renew obligation as members. The guidelines of the Grand Chapter Charity Fund will be heard.
The chapter will honor the past matrons and past patrons. Light refreshments will be served.
Free workshops on college planning
LEWISTON — The Maine Educational Opportunity Center will be hosting free workshops titled “Essentials of College Planning” for adults 19 and over at 10 a.m. Wednesdays, Nov. 14 and 28, at the Lewiston CareerCenter, 5 Mollison Way. The MEOC program helps qualified adults make the transition towards a college education. All services are free and include GED/SAT preparation, college planning, referrals/advocacy, career advising, financial aid advising, college admissions process and application fee waivers for qualified adults.
The interactive workshop outlines the four steps in the college process: admissions, financial aid, career planning and study skills. The workshop lasts approximately two to three hours. Preregistration is required.
Course on ‘Divine Appointments’
AUBURN — New Brunswick Bible Institute will hold Extension Classes Saturday, Nov. 17, at Marston’s Corner Baptist Church, 752 Beech Hill Road.
John Hoag, NBBI chancellor, faculty, will teach the course, “Divine Appointments.” He will also speak during the Sunday school hour on Nov. 18.
Matthew Little, NBBI president, faculty, will teach “Life Changing Lessons from the Gospel of John” and will also speak during the Sunday morning service.
All-faiths Thanksgiving
DURHAM — On Sunday, Nov. 18, at 7 p.m., there will be an all-faiths Thanksgiving service at the First Congregational Church of Durham UCC, 773 Royalsborough Road.
Nonperishable foods will be accepted. There will also be a free will offering to benefit LACO Food Pantry. Light refreshments to follow the service.
