Eastern Star meets Oct. 25

AUBURN — Pine Cone Chapter 26 Order of the Eastern Star will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, at the Masonic Hall, 1021 Turner St.

This will be a special meeting working degrees. There will be refreshments after the meeting. All Eastern Star members are welcome to attend.

Modern Square Dance class begins

LEWISTON — Twin City Spinners will start a new Modern Square Dance class Thursday, Oct. 25, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., at Martel School, East Avenue.

No prior experience or dance ability is required. Everyone is welcome.

Square dancing is Maine’s official folk dance. Modern square dance brings new music and new energy to the traditional folk dance. Anyone who knows their left from their right can be a successful square dancer.

Cribbage League winners named

LEWISTON — The Lewiston Senior Citizens Cribbage League winners at the Lewiston Memorial Armory on Oct. 18 were: first place, Ed Madden and Bert Chenard; second, Betty Ames and Lorraine Fillion; third, Louise Pelletier and Roberta Greenlaw; fourth, Pat Records and Gerry Roy; fifth, Monique Nadeau and Sonny Beaudoin.

Texas hold ’em, Halloween dance

MECHANIC FALLS — Mechanic Falls American Legion Post 150 has announced two upcoming events.

Texas hold ’em will be played at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26. Buy-in is $35.

The post will hold a Halloween dance from 8 p.m. to midnight Saturday, Oct. 27. There will be a DJ and no cover charge.

VFW Post 1603 breakfasts

AUBURN — The Capt. Frank W. Hulett VFW Post 1603 on 588 Minot Ave. will once again start having their post breakfasts for the public starting Sunday, Oct. 28, from 8 to 10 a.m. Donations will support community activities.

Christian-themed Halloween party

LEWISTON — Holy Cross Knights of Columbus Council 12,652 will hold their second annual Christian-Themed Halloween Party for children under the age of 12 accompanied by a parent. The event is free and will be held Sunday, Oct. 28, from 1 to 3 p.m., rain or shine.

There will be various activities for the kids including a “Temptation Junction” Haunted House; healthy snacks will be provided.

Children are encouraged to dress as their favorite biblical character or in their best Halloween costume for a chance to win a prize for “Best Boy Costume,” “Best Girl Costume” and “Best Overall Costume.”

Sabattus Seniors monthly meeting

SABATTUS — The Sabattus Seniors’ meal and meeting will be held on Thursday, Nov. 1, at the Maxwell Hall. Doors open at 11 a.m.

AUBURN — A Christmas fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at Barker Mill Arms, 143 Mill St.

There will be baked goods, door prizes, food baskets and a 50/50 raffle.

Minot Methodist Church fair

MINOT — The Minot Methodist Church fair “Susanna’s Treasures” will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, in the church vestry.

Free coffee will be offered. A luncheon will be available at 11:30 a.m.

Crafts including knit goods, mittens and decorations will be available as well as Rada products. Home-baked food will include cookies, cakes, breads, pies, candy and home-canned goods.

Knee surgery presentation

LEWISTON — A presentation by Dr. David Wexler of St. Mary’s Center for Orthopaedics will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, in Lepage Large Conference Room, 99 Campus Ave.

Wexler will discuss new technology and procedures that cause less trauma during surgery and lead to a faster recovery. He’ll also talk about how knee replacements last much longer than replacements made just a decade ago. The audience will have a chance to ask  questions.

During his 23 years as a surgeon, Wexler’s training has included various subspecialties providing a broad experience. His main focus at St. Mary’s Center for Orthopaedics is lower limb joint reconstruction including hip, knee and ankle replacement.
