LEWISTON — The Lewiston-Auburn Rotary Club has welcomed two new members, Monique Roy and Dan Wescott.

“I’m excited to become a Rotarian,” said Roy. “I’m excited about the values the club represents and looking forward to giving back to my community.”

Roy is a student adviser with Kaplan University. She resides in Lewiston with her husband and two children. “I have been looking for an organization to join; an organization to help me give back to the community where I live and work and meet new people,” she said. “Rotary is in line with my values and ethics and I look forward to being a part of this group.”

Wescott owns Wescott Electric, a full service electrical contractor offering industrial, commercial and residential services based out of Hartford and Windham.

Rotary is an international organization of professional individuals who commit themselves to the ideal of “service above self.” Each community club partakes in local and international projects, and also aligns itself in global projects with Rotary clubs across the world.

The LA Rotary has committed itself to helping local and international organizations. Annually, they award $7,000 in scholarships and thousands more to local area nonprofits. Internationally, they sent a team to Haiti in January 2012 and are working to secure a water truck for the Haiti International Alliance.

The Lewiston-Auburn Rotary club meets every Thursday from noon to 1 p.m. at the Ramada Inn. Lunch is $10 per person. Registration for meetings is not required.
