Audubon program on salmon

FARMINGTON — Western Maine Audubon will present its monthly program at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, on “Salmon Restoration.”

The Sandy River watershed is the focus of the biggest salmon restoration effort in the Northeast. The Sandy and its tributaries have perfect Atlantic salmon habitat and the first returns of fry hatched in its waters are just now coming up the Kennebec.

Fisheries biologist Paul Christman will present the story of the work that is happening in our local waters at Roberts C23 at the University of Maine Farmington. The program is free and open to the public.

Community luncheon Oct. 13

FARMINGTON — A free community luncheon will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at Old South First Congregational Church.

The menu includes roast loin of pork with rice pilaf, applesauce, peas and apple crisp.

Open house at fire station

FARMINGTON — As part of Fire Prevention Week, the Farmington Fire Department will hold an open house from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Fire Station, 153 Farmington Falls Road.

There will be light refreshments and fire department members will be available to show, demonstrate and answer questions about fire fighting. They will provide numerous handouts that offer suggestions for fire prevention practices for the home and workplace.

Free public supper is Oct. 13

JAY — This month’s free public supper will be held Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Main Street. Doors open at noon and serving is from 4:30 to 6 p.m.

Menu will be meatloaf, vegetables, sweet potatoes, corn bread, coffee and dessert. The friend of the supper this month is Howie’s Welding in Jay.

Walk benefits heating fund

INDUSTRY — The Walk for Heat will begin at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, with a rain date of Oct. 21. Participants will meet at the in-town parking lot across from the Ugly Moose. The walk will end in the same location, with refreshments.

Girl Scout info meeting

LEEDS (add to lco) — Girl Scouts of Maine will host a parent information and registration meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15, at Leeds Central School.

Girls and adults are invited to find out about the many different and fun ways today’s girls are participating in Girl Scouting and how the programs and activities inspire them to reach their personal best. Participants will also learn about the flexible options and benefits of becoming a Girl Scout volunteer.
