Public Works wearing pink

AUBURN — The City of Auburn’s Public Works Department would like to announce that its crew members will be wearing pink T-shirts every Friday throughout the month of October in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. In addition to the shirts the Public Works trucks will have pink ribbons attached to the vehicles.

The crew at Public Works has wanted to get behind a cause and show support for the community and fellow crew members as a united group. Combined with wearing the pink shirts emblazoned on the back with the well-recognized saying “Real Men Wear Pink” the crew will be raising money to donate to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation supporting breast cancer research.

Craft fair at Oak Hill

SABATTUS — The Class of 2013 will hold a craft fair at Oak Hill High School on Saturday, Nov. 3, to raise funds for graduation.

Golden Age group meets Oct. 9

AUBURN — The Golden Age Group of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish will meet for a social hour at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, at Sacred Heart Church. Lunch will be a harvest dinner.

This is cookie swap time so bring cookies packaged by the half-dozen in zip bags.

The Nov. 13 meeting will be a Thanksgiving dinner at The Green Ladle. Reservations need to be in and paid for by Oct. 29.

Both reservations may be made by calling 576-4082. New members are always welcome.

Eastern Star meeting Oct. 9

WALES — Lakeside Chapter 60, OES will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, at the Grange Hall, 322 Centre Road. The chapter’s meeting will honor Sideliners and Star Friendships. Ladies will wear colored gowns and gentlemen dark suits or tuxes.

Members are reminded that Kora Temple’s Festival of Trees is coming up the middle of next month and decorations for the group’s tree and gifts for under the tree need to be brought in so that the chairman can organize it all and create a pleasing tree for the festival.

Group members are putting on a potluck supper for Webster Lodge on Oct. 11.

On Oct. 18 members will bring desserts to Pioneer Chapter in Lisbon Falls for a community supper with Pioneer and Pine Cone chapters, to raise funds for the Eastern Star Training and Religious Leadership Scholarship. The dinner will be $3.

La Leche meeting Oct. 10

AUBURN — Expectant women and breastfeeding mothers are all invited to a La Leche League meeting to be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, at 102 Bennett Ave. Babies are always welcome.

This month’s discussion will focus on “Breastfeeding: Great Beginnings,” which will focus on preparing for nursing baby at birth, establishing and maintaining breastfeeding and adjusting to family life with a new baby.

American Legion monthly meeting

Thomas College rep visits schools

AUBURN — A representative from Thomas College will visit the following schools on Thursday, Oct. 11.

Lisbon High School in Lisbon Falls, 9 a.m.; Lewiston High School, 10 a.m.; Edward Little High School in Auburn, 11:15 a.m.; and St. Dominic Academy, Auburn, 12:45 p.m.

The representative will meet with students to discuss Thomas’ academic and sports programs and its residential life opportunities.

Civil War Round Table

BRUNSWICK — Joshua L. Chamberlain Civil War Round Table Lecture will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, at Curtis Memorial Library, Morrell Room, 23 Pleasant St. Speaker will be Stephen Sanfilippo on “Nailed to the Mast: Historic Songs of the Union and Confederate Navies.”
