LEWISTON — On Saturday, Oct. 6, Lewiston Public Library will participate in the inaugural Star Wars Reads Day. The event will be held on the third floor in Callahan Hall from 1 to 3 p.m. All ages are welcome, and admission is free.
Star Wars Reads Day is a national event that celebrates reading and Star Wars. It was created by Lucasfilm and its publishing partners, Abrams, Chronicle Books, Dark Horse, Del Rey, DK Publishing, Random House Audio, Scholastic, Titan Magazines and Workman.
More than 1200 libraries and bookstores will be participating nationwide, and each event will be unique. LPL is thrilled to be hosting a couple members from the Maine chapter of the Mandalorian Mercs, who will arrive in costume and pose for photos as well as sign autographs.
In addition, participants will be able to browse the library’s hundreds of Star Wars-related books, ranging from picture books for children to adult paperback bestsellers and graphic novels. At craft stations, guests will be able to make their own lightsabers, Yoda bookmarks, paper Millennium Falcon flyers and more. Those participating in any of the activities will receive Galactic Bucks, which they can redeem for Yoda Sodas at the Mos Eisley Cantina.
Guests are encouraged to arrive in costume and participate in the costume contest. A trivia contest will also be held at two different difficulty levels, and all are welcome to join in. Prizes include Star Wars books, posters and other fun giveaways.
