LEWISTON — The Lewiston CareerCenter announces October programming for job seekers and those who are considering training to upgrade their skills to increase their employability. Workshops of note, in addition to the regular programming:

Five Real World Strategies to Find a Meaningful Job, held 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 4 with Melissa Suey. Learn job search strategies that are current and relevant and, when implemented properly, really do help people get jobs. Suey is manager of training and development for Delhaize America, Hannaford’s parent company.

The Job Quest, offered three times: 2-4 p.m. Oct. 9 at the CareerCenter; 3:30-5 p.m. Oct. 16 at Central Maine Community College (for CMCC, call 755-5239 to register); and 3-5 p.m. Oct. 22 at the CareerCenter. We will discuss strategies you can use to highlight your skills and set yourself apart from the others.

Dollars and Sense: Budget Overhaul for tough times, offered 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 9. We will discuss the basic components for building a budget including money tracking, categorizing expenses, ways to save and cut back, and short-term financial goal setting. This workshop will be presented by Maine Centers for Women, Work, and Community. To register, call Laurie at 753-6612.

Job Search, Resumes and Interview Skills.  Offered 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Oct. 11 at the CareerCenter and 2-5 p.m. Oct. 18 at the Auburn Public Library (for APL, call 333-6640 to register). Learn how to stand out in a positive way by marketing yourself — in person and on paper — in a way that directly matches employer needs.

Mock Job Interviews, offered 1-3 p.m. Oct. 11 and 8-10 a.m. Oct. 25. This workshop will give you all the tools you will need to feel comfortable in an interview. Participating in the Resume/Interview Skills workshop is a prerequisite to attending this workshop.

Job Search, Resumes and Interview Skills from the human resource professional perspective, held 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 18, with Amie Parker, employment manager at Bates College. Parker will respond to participants’ questions and concerns about the job search and application process in today’s job search world.

Introduction to Self-Employment, offered from 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 18. This introductory workshop will help you decide if self-employment is the right choice for you. Presented by Shirley Hamilton from Maine Centers for Women, Work and Community. To register, call 753-6612.

Transferrable Skills for Veterans, held 1-4 p.m. Oct. 29. This workshop will help veterans take military experiences and translate them into civilian language for resumes and interviews. Call Rich at 753-9092 to register.
