OXFORD — The Oxford County Democrats participated in the Buckfield Labor Day parade and had a booth on the football field. Congressman Mike Michaud accompanied Rep. Terry Hayes, Sen. John Patrick, Register of Probate candidate Carol Gutekunst and County Treasurer Roy Gedat in the parade and in meeting and greeting the crowd as well as enjoying the great food and fine day. County Democratic chairwoman Cathy Newell and activists Jimmy McHugh and former senator Bruce Bryant were on hand to help with the booth.

A terrific kick-off for the Obama campaign and for the Southern Oxford County Democratic candidates was held in Fryeburg on Sept. 7 at the home of Stefi Reed Hastings. Representatives from Obama campaign in Maine and New Hampshire attended along with Newell to describe volunteer opportunities. Candidates attending included Rep. Helen Rankin, Dennise Whitley for Maine Senate 13, Carol Gutekunst for Register of Probate and Charleen Chase for County Commissioner District 1.

The field office in Bridgton at 148 Main St. opened  in mid-September, with a kick-off supper held at the Bridgton Community Center on Sept. 15. The office joins the offices in Mexico at 55 Main St. and Norway at 310 Main St. For information on volunteering at any of the offices, call 357-7510.

Events this fall include suppers at the Eagles Hall in Rumford on Friday, Sept. 28, and Thursday, Nov. 1, and in Norway at the Second Congregational Church on Friday, Oct. 26. All begin at 5:30 with a ticket price of $7.

The Oxford County Democrats will have booths at the Fryeburg Fair and at Oktoberfest in Rumford. A booth was staffed at the Community Day at the Oxford County Fair.
